What is the point of Holy Communion?

This is what we call one of the sacraments or mysteries of the Church. It’s a mystery because something spiritual is occurring that we don’t fully understand when we partake of it. But we believe, in some way, that we are consuming Christ. You have to think about it not as eating, but as filling. When we love someone, we don’t just want to be next to them, we want to be ONE with them. That is what is happening with communion. Christ is literally filling us with himself, in some mysterious metaphysical way. He loves us so much He doesn’t just want to be beside us, He wants to be ONE with us. We come to him as humbly as infants, being spoon fed.
